5 TIPS FOR ANSWERING QUESTIONS IN IELTS SPEAKING PART 1
Speaking Part 1 is the easiest part of the 3 parts of IELTS Speaking. This is also the part where candidates will make the first impression on the examiner. So how to give effective answers? This article will provide 5 tips to answer the IELTS Speaking part better.

1. Using Connectors:
Connectors will help candidates increase their score for the Fluency section, it will help candidates keep some time to think about their main answer.

2. Using Complex Grammar:
– Diverse uses:
Candidates tend to only give the present simple without any variety, so try to give different variety: present, past, future.
– Use sentences with clauses:
+ Relative clause
+ Complex sentences
3. Using Collocations:
Candidates tend to like to use big vocabulary to increase their vocabulary score. However, there is another way to increase vocabulary score by using collocations, but not many candidates really take full advantage of it.
Collocation is the way of combining words together to form phrases according to the usage habits of native speakers. Therefore, using collocations will help our speaking and writing become more natural, more like native speakers.
For example: When you translate the sentence “We are meeting many difficulties” into English, Vietnamese people will usually write “We’re meeting many difficulties”, but native speakers will have difficulty understanding because “meet” does not go with “difficulty”, instead they will say “We’re encountering/experiencing/facing many difficulties”.
4. Use synonyms and antonyms:
Using synonyms and antonyms will help increase the vocabulary criterion score. Shows the candidate’s ability to paraphrase vocabulary.
For example: I like reading = I am fond of reading = I am really into reading = I am one for reading.
5. Use adverbs:
Adding adverbs to your speech helps you sound like a native speaker, increases flexibility and can help you score points on vocabulary.
