GENERAL INTRODUCTION TO THE SPECIALIZED ENGLISH TEST

However, with fierce competition and the difficulty of the exam, the journey to review and reach success has never been easy and requires a persistent and effective review process.

In this article, 2G Education shares the structure of the English exam for Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted and Vinh University High School for the Gifted, along with a summary of official exam questions from previous years so that students can have a more general view of the exam!
STRUCTURE OF SPECIALIZED ENGLISH EXAM
For the specialized high school exam, students will be tested on the following skills: Listening, Reading, Writing, Vocabulary, and Grammar.
The knowledge of the exam ranges from level B2 – level C1.
Common types of exercises in each skill include:
I. Listening and comprehension section
– Listening exercises distinguish True/False
– Multiple Matching listening form: match corresponding columns
– Fill-in-the-blank listening exercise
– Multiple Choice listening format: choose 1 of 4 given answers
II. Reading comprehension
– IELTS reading format (Usually Heading Matching format: match the corresponding title with the content of the given paragraph)
– Guided Cloze Test: choose 1 of 4 given answers to complete the blank
– Open Cloze Test: fill in the blank with the most suitable word
– Reading Comprehension – Multiple Choice: choose 1 of 4 given answers to answer the question based on the reading text
– Multiple Matching exercise: match information in the paragraph to the question
III. Vocabulary section
– Multiple Choice: choose 1 of 4 given answers to complete the blank
+ Basic vocabulary knowledge
+ Knowledge of idioms
+ Knowledge of phrasal verbs
+ Synonym knowledge
+ Antonym knowledge
+ Conversation reply knowledge
+ Knowledge of collocation, fixed phrase (fixed phrase, word combination)
+ Advanced grammar knowledge: tenses, modal verbs, passive sentences, conditional sentences, indirect sentences, relative clauses, reported sentences, etc.
– Word Formation exercise: forming words based on root words
– Error Correction exercise: detect errors in a text and correct them.
IV. Grammar section
+ Advanced grammar knowledge: tenses, modal verbs, passive sentences, conditional sentences, indirect sentences, relative clauses, reported sentences, etc.
V. Writing section.
– Sentence rewriting: Rewrite the sentence so that the meaning corresponds to the original sentence given in the question. The question will provide keywords to rewrite the sentence. Usually, the rewriting will be based on grammar or vocabulary.
– Letter writing format: Includes 2 formats: Informal letter writing and Formal letter writing
– Essay format: Minimum 250 words; Essay types include:
Argumentative/Opinion/Agree or Disagree Essay (Opinion essay)
Discussion Essay Advantages and Disadvantages Essay.
Causes and Effects/Causes and Solutions/Problems and Solutions Essay.
