Meeting with the Executive Director of the World Scholar’s Cup

On the afternoon of October 12, 2019, more than 40 excellent students and teachers of 2G Education Center had the opportunity to directly interact and learn about the international academic competition World Scholar's Cup with Mr. Jeremy Chumley, Managing Director of the competition.

As a pioneer in the field of comprehensive academic English training in all English language skills (Listening – Speaking – Reading – Writing – Grammar) combined with the development of global citizen skills through project-based classroom training programs and extracurricular activities, 2G Education aspires to bring meaningful and practical educational opportunities to students with the cooperation and support of international educational organizations. Recently, the international educational organization 2G Education was honored to have the Executive Director of the World Scholar’s Cup global academic exam visit and interact with 40 secondary school students from Think & Academic Skills classes.

The World Scholar’s Cup is an international team academic competition initiated by the organization of the same name for high school students around the world. This is an annual playground – where students around the world can express their views on many topics such as Politics, Science, History, Literature, Art… through the forms of debate and debate in English. In 2019, the competition attracted more than 70 countries around the world with more than 40,000 students registered to participate.

Students participate in WSC in groups of 3 members and are divided into 4 groups: Primary from 8-11 years old, Junior from 12-14 years old, Senior from 15-18 years old. The competition will revolve around 6 subjects: Science & Technology, History, Literature, Art & Music, Social Studies and Special Area with 4 contents as follows:

  • Scholar’s Bowl: Teams work together to answer questions and challenges that increase in difficulty and are time-limited.
  • Scholar’s Challenge: multiple choice test, candidates can choose more than one answer for each question. However, the fewer answers with high probability of correctness, the higher the score.
  • Collaborative Writing: The organizers will give 6 arguments, each argument is from a different field, 3 contestants from each team will choose 3 arguments to defend or oppose. Contestants have 30 minutes to prepare with the team, 60 minutes to write an essay and the last 15 minutes to discuss in groups and complete.
  • Team Debate: After the topic is announced, each group will use their computers to research and find materials for 15 minutes. Each group will debate three times for 4 minutes, with topics ranging from social policy to poetry.
